Details : Rope

Laura and I were out shopping the other day and found some nautical inspired items. As usual, it caught Laura’s eye!  I think of Laura when I see nautical inspired home decor. So Laura, this one is for you: clever uses of rope as interior detail.

So, since you HAVE to have lighting… make it worthwhile and take time to select the right fixture for your space. Planning the Ideal Home Office

A home office is a space to escape from a chaotic home, become inspired and focused. Right now, I’m dreaming of my next home office. Currently, my home office is a bunch of studs and sub floor. I’m starting with a blank slate. My creativity is running wild with possibilities to transform a bare, newly constructed room into a productive, functional and inspiring space.

Storage
Aside from being charming, I admire the cabinets and they’re ample storage! Keeping the ugly office supplies concealed in refreshing white cabinets would keep the desk space clutter free. There is plenty of daylight, but the space does need more lighting for evening and night-time use.
Office Chair
Spending quite a bit of time working at a desk, a comfortable chair is a must! As I always say – sit in the furniture before you make a purchase. Lean on it. Lounge in it.  Do what you would do if you were sitting it in for a few hours. You may feel silly slouching and lounging on a chair in public, but it will help you determine if the chair is right for you! Every person is portioned different and has different preferences on seating.
Desk
The style of desk needs to reflect your level of usage. Don’t use a desk often or have much to store? You could probably get by with minimal storage in the desk. Keeping the desk organized and tidy this well all the time is unrealistic for everyday use. Desk selection should be planned according to your usage level. Side note: This wall map is repurposed as wall art – just as Laura wrote about in a past Hepburn Interiors blog post here!
Lighting
Talk about a crafters dream room! This office space offers multiple types of lighting. The under cabinet lighting works as task lighting. This helps illuminate the spaces where the user is creating or making something. The incredible chandelier provides excellent overall ambient lighting. It illuminates the entire space with an even light. The recessed light above the computer area provides accent lighting directly over the computer work space.

Happy Easter!

This is the time of year as a child, I would dream of being Judy Garland on 5th Avenue, pretending I have a beautiful Easter bonnet with all the frills upon it! Anyone else also enjoy watching Easter Parade? Like Judy Garland and Fred Astaire, Easter is quite charming when it comes to style and fashion. Here’s a sweet peek at Easter and spring inspirations making their way into home interiors!

Favorites : Sputnik

With the snow covering the Midwest today, I’m inside dreaming away about one of my favorite pieces : the sputnik chandelier. It’s anything but boring. A burst of energy. I love adding interesting pieces like this. Especially when they’re functional, too!

Guest Post : Metal Lighting

Happy Wednesday! Halfway through the week, hooray! Anyway, today, we are happy to have a guest blogger share some inspiration and trends in metal lighting. Enjoy!

Hi, all! It’s Mari here from Arcadian Home blog, a lovely place to find lots of decor inspirations. I’m so happy to be visiting Hepburn Interiors to share a guest post about metal lights that are both beautiful and functional. From appealing foyer lighting to stylish contemporary kitchen island pendants and everything in between, there’s a perfect metal light for every space, indoors and out.

Today, I’ve brought along images of eight spaces that show how beautifully metal lights can work in just about any design style. Please enjoy!

Metal Light

With twigs and vines, this metal hanging lantern is unexpectedly delicate. It’s a beautiful design choice to complement traditional wallpaper and contemporary built-in banquette–a lovely mix of styles.

Metal Light

From light and airy chandelier to heavy buffet lamps, the metal lights in this room offer a beautiful and intriguing study in contrast.

Metal Light

Contemporary white cone pendants with golden metallic linings are beautiful above a massive center island. What a wonderful eat-in kitchen!

Metal Light

In an inviting eclectic open living space, a black wrought iron chandelier gets a touch of glam with strings of glass beads.

Metal Light

Black metal shades and chrome arms create a cool wall lamp design that seems just right for this contemporary kitchen. I love the chunky open shelves for dishes.

Metal Light

Another twiggy metal chandelier adds a touch of femininity to the chic bedroom. The dark chocolate upholstered bed becomes the design’s focal point amidst the paler hues on the walls, floor and at the windows.

Metal Light

Wrapped in travertine, this bath is at once elegant and stunning in its simplicity. Contemporary brass wall sconces have the look of miniature torchiere lamps—quiet lovely.

Metal Light

Metal lights are perfect for outdoor spaces. This one adds drama and contemporary style to an intimate patio–a beautiful place for morning coffee, lunch with friends or leisurely dinner party after dark. Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5| |6 | 7 | 8

Thank you, Mari! I think this is a great reminder that a beautiful light fixture or chandelier is appropriate in any space!

Black : Chandeliers

While assisting a kind client select a chandelier today, I couldn’t help but become so hooked on black chandeliers. It’s dramatic and bold. It catches your eye. It adds sophistication. Regardless of traditional or modern design, a black chandelier works across the board.

This chandelier has an organic and natural look. Fits in perfectly with the large wall of windows and the doors. At night-time, it probably has a gentle, soft glow between the branches and stems of the chandelier. Beautiful!

Drum shades are an excellent solution for a chandelier in a space that is used for formal and casual dining. If you have one eating area in your home, consider using a bold drum shade. They are charming and casual at the same time. Perfect for modern, everyday living!

And when you’re overwhelmed by your choices of sleek, stylish black light fixtures, just install them all! Well, that is a joke, but it actually works great in this space. Who would have thought? The metallic finish inside the fixtures is a perfect touch of glamour to compliment this dining room.
The appearance of a chaotic, tangle of wires and lights is the focal point for this space. Everything is so simple and lets the chandelier steal the show. This chandelier brings not only light, but excitement and life to the room. The light wall color helps the chandelier show off its black beauty.
