April showers bring May flowers: Floral Decor

Well, April is drawing to a close and May is almost here!  I can’t believe it!  Soon flowers will be in full bloom.  Floral artwork and accessories are quite popular and can really add that pop of color to your space.  And for those of us lacking a green thumb it’s a way to bring nature indoors.  Sometimes a floral upholstered piece looks great too!  Let’s take a look at a few examples:

I love how these floral chairs add just the right touch of whimsy!
Notice how the artwork ties in several colors in the space.  Sometimes starting with the artwork and working backwards will give you a great color palate.
The vibrant colors in the rug really add life to this room.  I love the dark walls!
Check out this funky room! The floral wallpaper becomes the rooms artwork.
Happy May Day tomorrow!  Perhaps some flowers will brighten your day!

Happy Easter!

This is the time of year as a child, I would dream of being Judy Garland on 5th Avenue, pretending I have a beautiful Easter bonnet with all the frills upon it! Anyone else also enjoy watching Easter Parade? Like Judy Garland and Fred Astaire, Easter is quite charming when it comes to style and fashion. Here’s a sweet peek at Easter and spring inspirations making their way into home interiors!

Trend : Coral

Coral is a charming color, inspired by tranquil seas. I think by now, we’re all looking forward to warmer weather. Seems like today is a good day to warm up and see how the coral trend crosses over from bedrooms to living rooms to patios! As you can see, it is versatile : pairing nicely with other warm neutrals, white, teal and navy. A simple foot stool, pillow or an entire chair in coral can warm things up!

Love the coral on the back of the white shelves. I received that teal and coral vase as a Christmas gift this past year! It’s from Anthropologie!
This color is more orange, but I love that octopus!!

Favorites : Sputnik

With the snow covering the Midwest today, I’m inside dreaming away about one of my favorite pieces : the sputnik chandelier. It’s anything but boring. A burst of energy. I love adding interesting pieces like this. Especially when they’re functional, too!

Plum : Accent Pieces

Plum is a rich color that can add sophistication to any space. The saturated color can anchor a space or bring depth. Try using plum as an accent in your home! Also – notice the use of velvet, a beautiful trend in home decor! Click on the link to read our past blog post about velvet trends!

Home Staging : For Potential Buyers or Yourself!

In the past 7 days, my husband & I closed on the sale of our house and we moved to a temporary home as we wait for our new house to be constructed. Our realtors, Robert and Karen Rumba of Greenwood, are optimistic about the housing market in Indiana. To prove it, our home was on the market for only 20 days! Home staging is critical to ensure successful showings, leading to a prompt, completed sale. Even if you are not planning to sell a home, it is nice to spruce up your existing living space and show it off a bit!

A well made bed can clean up any room any day. Pamper yourself with some crisp new bed linens, or at least make your bed everyday. Simplicity and neutral colors are pleasing to perspective home buyers. Cleanliness and tidiness is pleasing to everyone!
Fluffy Towels Wood Grain West Elm Indianapolis Greenwood Interior Designer Hepburn Interiors
Speaking of fluffy, the bathroom should have cozy, thick towels nicely folded, like these wood grain towels from West Elm. A bathroom with lush linens feels very relaxing and spa-like. Staging a tranquil bathroom atmosphere is sure to grab attention. Avoid cluttering the counter tops with toiletries.
In a home with ample windows, it is important to pull back the curtains or uncover them. Allow natural light to fill the home. This makes the home appear larger, brighter and shows off any unique or decorative windows.

Pottery Barn Topiary

A simple centerpiece can add class to your dining space. These topiaries from Pottery Barn are simple and add a natural touch. If you have a garden, clip some blooms. Decorate sparingly and appropriately. To reiterate, avoid clutter!

These are just a few simple tips to make your home more attractive to potential buyers or just for yourself! We would be excited to help you sell your home fast with appropriate staging. If you need your existing space to be rearranged with a designer’s eye, contact us!

Guest Post : Metal Lighting

Happy Wednesday! Halfway through the week, hooray! Anyway, today, we are happy to have a guest blogger share some inspiration and trends in metal lighting. Enjoy!

Hi, all! It’s Mari here from Arcadian Home blog, a lovely place to find lots of decor inspirations. I’m so happy to be visiting Hepburn Interiors to share a guest post about metal lights that are both beautiful and functional. From appealing foyer lighting to stylish contemporary kitchen island pendants and everything in between, there’s a perfect metal light for every space, indoors and out.

Today, I’ve brought along images of eight spaces that show how beautifully metal lights can work in just about any design style. Please enjoy!

Metal Light

With twigs and vines, this metal hanging lantern is unexpectedly delicate. It’s a beautiful design choice to complement traditional wallpaper and contemporary built-in banquette–a lovely mix of styles.

Metal Light

From light and airy chandelier to heavy buffet lamps, the metal lights in this room offer a beautiful and intriguing study in contrast.

Contemporary white cone pendants with golden metallic linings are beautiful above a massive center island. What a wonderful eat-in kitchen!

In an inviting eclectic open living space, a black wrought iron chandelier gets a touch of glam with strings of glass beads.

Black metal shades and chrome arms create a cool wall lamp design that seems just right for this contemporary kitchen. I love the chunky open shelves for dishes.

Another twiggy metal chandelier adds a touch of femininity to the chic bedroom. The dark chocolate upholstered bed becomes the design’s focal point amidst the paler hues on the walls, floor and at the windows.

Wrapped in travertine, this bath is at once elegant and stunning in its simplicity. Contemporary brass wall sconces have the look of miniature torchiere lamps—quiet lovely.

Metal lights are perfect for outdoor spaces. This one adds drama and contemporary style to an intimate patio–a beautiful place for morning coffee, lunch with friends or leisurely dinner party after dark. Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5| |6 | 7 | 8
